Cara Martino, a Glenside native and senior vice president for clinical improvement and transformation for Jefferson Health, was named a 2026 “40 under 40” honoree by The Philadelphia Business Journal.
During her 15-year tenure with the health provider, Martino, 39, “has reduced hospital-acquired infections by optimizing workflow, reduced unnecessary opioid prescribing by 50%, decreased readmissions and enhanced safety reporting”, The Journal wrote.
She also “created the system’s OnPoint Insights program with dashboards accessed over 15,000 times monthly by clinical teams and spearheaded the implementation of a Health-Related Social Needs screener that has since assessed more than 1 million patients. Martino’s leadership spans 32 hospitals and hundreds of practices, directly impacting hundreds of thousands of patients annually.”
A graduate of Roxborough School of Nursing, Temple University, and Thomas Jefferson University, Martino started with Jefferson as a surgical intensive care unit nurse.
An excerpt from her mention:
By my 50th birthday, I’d like to: I would like to have advanced the professional landscape for nurses, and women, within the healthcare sector. My goal is to establish clear pathways and supportive ecosystems that empower them to fully demonstrate their unique value, foster innovation, and achieve leadership roles, across the health care sector.
