Mr. Lawrence Fox, Cheltenham graduate and an award-winning expert on legal ethics and professional responsibility, has passed away at 82

Mr. Lawrence Fox, a 1961 graduate of Cheltenham High School and a renowned expert on legal ethics and professional responsibility, passed away on Friday, February 20 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.

Mr. Fox was regarded as one of the nation’s most influential voices in legal ethics, professional responsibility and judicial conduct, according to his obituary in the Philadelphia Business Journal. He served as a litigator at Drinker Biddle & Reath in Philadelphia for more than 40 years and helped write the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

Mr. Fox was named the 2021 recipient of the ABA Medal, the American Bar Association’s highest honor. He taught legal ethics at the law schools at Cornell University, Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania and co-authored eight books on professional responsibility, including “The Law Governing Lawyers.”

He was a 1965 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a 1968 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Carey Law School, his obituary said.

Mr. Fox’s younger brother was the late 1965 Cheltenham High graduate and Alumni Association Hall of Famer Jon D. Fox. At Cheltenham High, Mr. Fox was captain of the College Board Team, a Merit Scholar, and a member of the National Honor Society. 

Funeral services were held today at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El in Wynnewood. A Celebration of Life will be held April 25 at 11 a.m. at the Union League in Philadelphia.
