Niko Barnett, a senior at Jenkintown High School and member of Scouts BSA Troop 201, is officially an Eagle Scout.
The son of Andrew and Jessica Barnett (Troop 201’s Scoutmaster), Barnett’s Eagle Project involved the construction of new raised garden beds in front of Jenkintown Borough Hall earlier this year. The beds are used for flowers and as a community garden.
Barnett worked with the borough’s Environmental Advisory Committee, Borough Council Member Alexandria Khalil, and Borough Manager George Locke to design durable and attractive replacements for the existing boxes. In May, Troop 201 celebrated Barnett’s Eagle Project with a plaque and dedication ceremony at Jenkintown Borough Hall.

Barnett is also an artist, an avid baker, and the Troop’s webmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster Greg Lester told Glenside Local.
Four percent of boy scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout since its inception in 1911.
Troop 201 serves youth of all genders ages 11 through 17 at Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown. More information can be found at JenkintownTroop201.org.
