Sergeant Walter F. Hartnett, IV, decorated US Army Sergeant, Veteran Affairs Case Worker for Rep. Dean, to be laid to rest on June 17

Walter F. Hartnett, IV, 47, of Conshohocken passed away Monday, June 9. Hartnett was a beloved member of the community, known for his tireless work on behalf of veterans.

Hartnett worked as a Veterans Affairs Case Worker for Congresswoman Madeleine Dean of Glenside and served as Co-Chair of the VFW Department of Pennsylvania, District Commander of PA VFW District 16, and Quartermaster of Conshohocken VFW Post 1074. He also previously served as the Post Commander for Post 1074.

During a memorial service following his death, Congresswoman Dean shared that when Hartnett applied for the job of Veterans Affairs Case Work in her office, she told him that he would be taking a pay cut if he accepted the role (he would be leaving the corporate world for public service). He responded that he wanted to turn his passion for helping veterans into a career, and he accepted the position.

Hartnett was a Sergeant in the US Army, where he received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device.

Hartnett was born in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia on September 3, 1977. He attended Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and Wildwood High School, where he graduated.

A memorial service for Hartnett will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 9:00am at Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home at 300 Fayette Street in Conshohocken.

Friends may call on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and morning visitation will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with military honors.

Conshohocken VFW Post 1074 has asked the public to honor Harnett by lining Fayette Street between the funeral home and North Lane on June 17th at 9:45 a.m. as he is taken to the cemetery.
