History with Chuck: Cheltenham football standout honored with Mini Maxwell Award

Dan Rouse, a 2011 graduate of Cheltenham High School, was honored in January of his senior year by the Maxwell Football Club at their banquet in Drexel Hill with a Mini Maxwell Award.

The award recognizes the “unique balance of football prowess, academic excellence and community service.” During the 2010 scholastic football season, Rouse was named Suburban One League American Conference Player of the Year and was instrumental in helping the Panthers capture a share of the SOL American Conference title for the first time since 1977.

Off the football field, Rouse was an honor student, a member of the marching band, the symphonic school band and the Cheltenham jazz band. According to local historian Chuck Langerman, he had several featured trombone solos in Cheltenham High’s winter concert, forcing him to leave the Maxwell Club Banquet early in order to get back to Wyncote in time to perform.

Rouse is pictured above receiving the award from former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski.

He went on to graduate from Temple University in 2015. He currently works as a musician.
