The Abington Township Adult School, an institution since 1956, has announced its permanent closure.
Since its inception, the school has served adults aged 18 years or older through classes for just about anything you can imagine. Their most recent catalog features expert-led courses on cooking and baking, technology, music and dance, fitness and exercise, personal finance, foreign languages, the psychology and spirituality of dreams, and Buddhist philosophy.
Since February 2020, it classes have been hosted by Abington Junior High School at 2056 Susquehanna Road.
From the school’s director, Helen A. Super:
After 66 years, the Abington Township Adult School has closed. I would like to thank the community, the students and the faculty for their loyalty for all of these years. In particular, I would like to thank Dr. Fecher, superintendent of Abington School District, Mr. Berrios, principal of Abington Senior High School, and Mr. File, principal of Abington Junior High School for all of their support. In addition, I would like to thank the Maintenance departments in both schools who have helped us in so many ways to keep the school running over the years.
Their website is still live at the time of this writing.
