Huntingdon Valley native the focus of new documentary ‘Between Life & Death: Terri Schiavo’s Story’

The late Theresa Marie Schiavo, a Huntingdon Valley / Lower Moreland Township native, is the focus of a new documentary titled “Between Life & Death: Terri Schiavo’s Story”.

Schiavo, better known as “Terri,” was in a vegetative state for 15 years before her death in 2005.

Schiavo’s husband and legal guardian argued that Schiavo would not have wanted prolonged artificial life support without the prospect of recovery, and in 1998, he elected to remove her feeding tube.

Schiavo’s parents disputed her husband’s assertions and challenged Schiavo’s medical diagnosis, arguing in favor of continuing artificial nutrition and hydration.

The documentary chronicles the Schiavo family’s widely publicized legal battle and the contentious right-to-die debate and “explores how the ‘pro-life’ movement harnessed Terri’s story and examines competing ethical positions on bodily autonomy, the concerns of marginalizing and ventriloquizing feminist voices, and the deep painful sorrow of anticipatory grief that occurs before an impending loss,” according to a press release.
