The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced that officers responded to the Wyngate Community in Wyncote on Tuesday, October 28 at approximately 6:21pm for multiple 9-1-1 calls of a “vicious pit bull chasing and attacking people and other dogs.”
According to the department, police located the dog, “which then aggressively approached an officer. The Officer discharged one shot from their firearm in self defense, striking the dog. The dog then ran away.”
Police said the owner of the dog subsequently called 9-1-1 to report an injured dog. Cheltenham police confirmed the report and transported the dog to an emergency veterinary surgical hospital for treatment.
