Jenkintown family’s Holocaust collection feat. by Jewish Exponent

Lorna Tabby and her son David were recently featured in an article by the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent titled “A Jenkintown Man Collected Holocaust Artifacts. What Will His Family Do with Them?”

The article describes the contents of a section of Lorna Tabby’s basement: Holocaust artifacts.

The collection, which was gathered over a lifetime by David’s father, Gilbert Tabby, includes “a blood-red flag emblazoned with the Nazi swastika,” “a frame with swastika patches,” uniforms, helmets, 154 letters from concentration camp prisoners, and 90 stars and armbands, among other historical items.

According to the article, Mr. Tabby is a Philadelphia native who passed away in 2019. Collecting was his hobby.

Eventually, the Tabbys would like to find an appropriate home for the items. According to the Exponent, Lorna’s synagogue, Old York Road-Temple Beth Am in Abington, will display the items on Yom HaShoah in 2024.

“If it were going to any kind of museum, I’d want his collection to stay together,” David said.
