Dr. Robert Mansell, a resident of Laverock and owner of Robert J. Mansell Dental in Abington Township, has basketball in his genes.
One of Dr. Mansell’s brothers played basketball at Georgia Tech alongside former NBA power forward John Salley and four-time NBA All-Star Mark Price.
Dr. Mansell’s sister was the all-time leading rebounder at Georgia when she left.
Dr. Mansell’s three sons—Harris, Patrick, and Robert—were four-year starting members of Cheltenham High School’s Varsity basketball team, each scoring over 1,000 points and earning basketball scholarships to Division I universities.
Harris Mansell ’05, who went on to play for Rider University, scored 1,919 career points during his high school career, the most ever by a CHS boy. Harris’ scoring numbers are bested only by former University of Maryland All-American and WNBA professional Laura Harper ’04, who finished with a school-record 2,009 points.

Patrick ’06 (pictured in action above), who also played for Rider, finished his CHS career with 1,869 points.

Robert ’10 finished his CHS career with 1,215 points. He went on to play at Binghamton University in New York.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, the Mansells are the second trio of brothers in Pennsylvania history to each score over 1,000 career points.
The first trio, the Allen brothers from Wampum High School in western Pennsylvania, included the late Philadelphia Phillies legend Richie “Dick” Allen who scored 1,931 career points and led Wampum to the Small School state title in 1958. Allen’s older brother Hank scored 1,259 points, while younger brother Ron Allen tallied 1,195 career points.
All three brothers played Major League Baseball.

Fun fact: One of the Mansell’s uncles, Randy Holloway, won the national championship as a Pitt football star in 1976 before landing in the NFL as the 21st overall pick in the 1978 draft, according to Rider University News.
