Cheltenham native JoAnne Epps to be named acting president of Temple University

According to recent article by The Philadelphia Tribune, Cheltenham native JoAnne Epps will soon be named acting president of Temple University.

Epps, 71, was the dean of Temple Law School from July 2008 until her appointment as executive vice president and provost of Temple University in July 2016. According to The Tribune, she left Temple in 2021 as part of a senior management shakeup by President Jason Wingard, who resigned March 31.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Trinity College in 1973 and her law degree from Yale in 1976. Epps taught law at Temple for more than 30 years after serving as assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia and Deputy City Attorney in Los Angeles. Epps was also appointed by the U.S. District Court from 2011 to 2019.

According to Epps’ Temple University biography, “National Jurist Magazine named her among the 25 most influential people in legal education for 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, citing her leadership in implementing this approach at Temple.”
