A steamroller and pumpkin carving at MCCC on October 30th

Now through December 3rd, The Cheltenham Printmakers Guild is presenting an art exhibition hosted by the Montgomery County Community College’s Fine Arts Center Gallery, 340 DeKalb Pike, in Blue Bell.

The Cheltenham Printmakers Guild consists of artists living throughout the Delaware Valley region who engage in the art of printmaking. Printmaking is the artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a template onto another surface, most often paper or fabric and can include monoprints, woodcuts, etchings, and other print-based media.

On Saturday, Oct. 30, the Guild is presenting a special workshop where they will demonstrate printmaking using a four-foot asphalt steamroller. For the last several months, Guild printmakers have been carving 2-by-3-foot and 2-by-4-foot panels to make the prints. At the workshop, they will lay the panels on the ground, apply ink and paper, and then roll over the materials with the steamroller, creating art.

The steamroller press coincides with MCCC’s annual Pumpkinfest, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. At Pumpkinfest, each participant will get a free pumpkin to carve on-site (while supplies last) with tools and templates provided by MCCC. You can bring additional pumpkins to carve as well.  This is a free event but registration is required. You can register here. https://bit.ly/3BQZ9II.
