Cheltenham Honors Library Board Members and a Retiring Service Dog

The Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners honored board members who served the Cheltenham Township Library Board and Maji the therapy dog with resolutions upon their retirement for service to the Cheltenham Township Library at the March 20th Board of Commissioners meeting.

A resolution was presented to Maji Burns, the therapy dog retiring from ten years of service to Cheltenham’s Library System. Maji is a Belgian Malinois service dog, whose name means “water” in Swahili, faithfully served the Township as a Certified Therapy Dog through Therapy Dogs International (TDI) for the Glenside Free Library. Maji patiently listened to hundreds of young children as they practiced reading aloud and provided a safe place for children to feel comforted as they learned to read. He was a champion of literacy in the Glenside and Wyncote Communities and helped make reading fun and enjoyable for children, while also providing support and guidance.

Barbara Kotzin was honored upon her retirement for eighteen years of dedicated service to the Cheltenham Township Library Board, but not present at the meeting. David Updike was also presented with a resolution in honor of his retirement after four years of service on the Cheltenham Township Library Board.
