Jenkintown Council Highlights: Cedar Street Park Proposal Formally Presented

Jenkintown’s controversial “pocket park” proposal slated for Cedar Street made its official debut at Borough Hall at last month’s Council meeting.

The park will feature a pergola, a wall seat, a shed, a six-foot fence, “incredible amounts of trees and landscaping”, five boulders, and an unspecified maintenance plan.

The Borough needs this final proposal to apply for state and federal grants to offset the costs of design, development, and construction.

Mr. Hassan did not provide a time frame for completion of the park.

According to Khal Hassan from Pennoni & Associates, the park will cost $280,000 to build after $50,000 in projected demolition costs.

When we asked Mr. Hassan what his fees were, Council President Deborra Sines-Pancoe and Borough Solicitor Sean Kilkenny prevented Mr. Hassan from answering. We will file a Right-to-Know request for those figures.

These figures added to the cost of property purchase, ongoing maintenance, and the loss of tax revenue to both the Borough and the School District amount to just over $600,000 to date.

This year Jenkintown Borough reported a $400,000 deficit.
