40-bed surge facility to be hosted by Suburban Community Hospital in East Norriton

Montgomery County has announced that a temporary 40-bed facility will be established within Suburban Community Hospital in East Norriton Township. The unit will supplement the capabilities of hospitals both inside and outside of Montgomery County should they reach capacity during this public health crisis.

The unit is capable of treating both COVID and non-COVID patients and will be staffed by volunteer physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Surge Medical Assistance Response Team (SEPA SMART) under the clinical direction of Suburban Community
Hospital. SEPA SMART is overseen and funded by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force, chaired by Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Director Thomas M. Sullivan.

“I am grateful to Suburban Community Hospital, the members of SEPA SMART, and our Department of Public Safety for working together to establish this surge facility,” said Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “This will be a crucial resource in our efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19 both in Montgomery County and throughout the region.”
