Cheltenham alum-owned Turbo Lawn and Property Care in Elkins Park thriving and growing

Daniel Hayes, a 2022 graduate of Cheltenham High School and owner/founder of Turbo Lawn and Property Care LLC in Elkins Park, has seen his business thrive as of late.

Hayes launched the landscaping company when he was a junior in high school.

“I was doing yard work with a couple buddies and then decided to make things official. We just kept going from there,” he said.

Turbo Lawn and Property Care started out with regular maintenance gigs: lawncare, leaf cleanups, mulching, etc. As the company has grown in clientele and staff, Hayes has moved into landscape design and hardscaping projects—land clearing, grading, excavation—and diversified his portfolio with commercial clients.

The company has also expanded its reach to Glenside, Abington, Jenkintown, Roslyn, Ardsley, Dresher, Huntingdon Valley, Willow Grove, Dresher, and beyond.

Hayes says that availability for face-to-face conversations with customers has added a personal touch to an industry that can be somewhat impersonal.

He also seeks out local talent: his staff now has five full-timers along with weekend help, most of whom are or were CHS students.

“Our landscape foreman graduated with me. Our lawn guy is Class of 2020, and a couple other kids that I’ve known since first grade are working with us this summer,” he said.

“It’s been really great to have a community that’s so supportive and uplifting. We started this during a tough time, and people have been very receptive. The neighborhood is so connected. I’ve been able to grow via word of mouth pretty quickly,” Hayes said.

Clients are as homegrown as the business itself.

“We just cut the lawn for the former high school principal. We did a big installation for my former science teachers, and we’ve serviced a number of other Cheltenham teachers and staff. They’ve supported us, and that’s been huge,” Hayes said.
