Glenside’s The Yankee Chipper was recently featured in the Irish Star’s article, “The Yankee Chipper: Irish American cousins bring Irish staple to Philadelphia after years bartending in Dublin.”
The article celebrates cousin co-owners Eric Connor and Shana Cox, who opened The Yankee Chipper in July 2021.

From the article:
The Chipper was inspired by the duo’s memorable upbringing in a “big Irish American household”, where they were immersed in Irish music, culture, and craic.
Eric’s time pulling pints and pouring shots in Dublin – namely The Globe on South Great George’s Street and Rí-Rá nightclub on Dame Court – also sparked a vision into what would become his future endeavor, and continues to be a great source of inspiration for the place he and Shana have poured their all into since the beginning.
“My dad is one of 11 and our grandmother was born in Scotland but had family in Co Donegal,” Eric told IrishStar.com. “I spent four years in Dublin when I was younger so I’ve always felt Irish – it’s always been a big part of me. The bars in Dublin have closed now but they were such cool places to work. I was a musician at the time, too, so I used to tour all over the country. It was a really special time.
“When I came back to the States, I noticed there were a lot of places calling themselves Irish bars but there was nothing Irish or authentic about them. It didn’t sit well with me. I thought, what’s Irish about it besides some shamrocks on the wall? They didn’t play Irish music or serve Irish food or have a vibe similar to Ireland. I wanted to own a spot that felt like you were there.“I guess those thoughts came out as The Yankee Chipper.”
