Jasmine E. Hernandez, 40, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 9 to 18 months in prison after being found in illegal possession of a handgun during a traffic stop in Abington Township on December 27, 2024, Mainline Media News reported.
Hernandez pleaded guilty to charges of carrying a firearm without a license and persons not to possess firearms.
The investigation began when Abington police stopped a Land Rover with “excessive window tint, a broken driver’s side mirror and a questionable registration tag”. Hernandez was a passenger, though the vehicle was registered in her name. The registration had expired in 2023.
Police also detected marijuana and saw “marijuana roaches” in an ashtray. The vehicle was then impounded and searched with a warrant.
The search revealed a Taurus 9mm semiautomatic handgun in Hernandez’s purse and nine individually packaged bags of marijuana in the vehicle. The firearm was loaded with a magazine that contained five 9mm bullets and one bullet in the chamber, Mainline Media said.
