Zhontay Capers, 24, of Philadelphia was sentenced to 32½ to 67 years in prison for the October 26, 2023, murder of Bernard Nicholas Gribbin, 48, of Abington, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Gribbin, a 12-year SEPTA employee and Army combat veteran, was shot six times in the chest and abdomen while driving a SEPTA bus. He was pronounced dead at Einstein Medical Center shortly after.

Capers was arrested by plainclothes police officers less than a mile from the scene of the shooting. She pleaded guilty to third-degree murder on August 3.
Surveillance footage showed Capers holding a firearm near the front of the bus moments before the shooting.
“She then fires a shot toward the bus driver, re-enters the bus and fires again. And from what we see in the video, and it’s very preliminary, it appears she gets on and off several times,” Interim First Dep. Commissioner Frank Vanore said in 2023.
