Willow Grove man sentenced for pistol whipping man outside Big Heads Bar in Upper Moreland

Rasheed Jamar Basketbill, 33, of the 1800 block of Davisville Road in Willow Grove, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possessing a concealed weapon with intent to use it criminally and recklessly endangering another person in connection with an altercation in September 2023 in which he pistol whipped another man outside Big Heads Bar in Upper Moreland, the Pottstown Mercury reported.

Basketbill was sentenced to 15-to-36-months in prison beginning September 20, plus one year of probation. He is to pay $2,278 in restitution and have no contact with the victim, who also resides in Willow Grove, or the victim’s family, the Mercury said.

Basketbill was arrested after Upper Moreland police responded to a report of an assault and a person with a weapon. Arriving officers found a 33-year-old man suffering from a head injury, according to the criminal complaint filed by Upper Moreland Detective Mark Edward Bouldin.

“The victim was conscious but had previously lost consciousness,” Bouldin said in the complaint. “The victim stated his last memory of the evening was walking out of the bar to assist his friend with getting into a ride-share vehicle. The victim’s next memory was being inside an ambulance.”

Witnesses reported that Basketbill had approached the victim and “after a brief, verbal exchange with no insults or provocation by the victim,” Basketbill retrieved a firearm, according to court documents.

“The suspect racked the firearm and put it in his waistband,” Bouldin said in the complaint.

After escorting a female to the passenger seat of his vehicle, Basketbill allegedly returned and threatened to shoot the victim, according to court documents.
