Willow Grove Shopping Center undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation

Located at the busy intersection of Easton Road and York Road, Willow Grove Shopping Center is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation which will include a new-to-market grocery concept and the addition of 18,000 square feet of new small shop space.

Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRT), a Maryland-based real estate company, is still seeking approvals for the intended redevelopment. FRT’s more ambitious changes involve residential development. Plans currently call for 200 new apartments, giving residents easy commuting access by way of proximity to major transportation modes (highway and public).

In addition, a general spruce-up of the retail operations has been proposed. The retail entities envisioned in Willow Grove will occupy the first floor of the proposed apartment complex.

COVID-19 has been among the drivers of these renovations; as workers continued careers from home, they still sought outdoor gathering places to get outdoors, socialize, dine, and shop.

More on the proposed renovation is in the Philadelphia Business Journal. The rendering of the shopping center is courtesy of FRT.
