William ‘Bill’ James Young, Jr., Jenkintown grad and WWII veteran, has passed away at 100

William “Bill” James Young, Jr., a Jenkintown native and a World War II veteran, died peacefully and surrounded by his family on Friday, August 9. He was 100 years old.

The son of Irish immigrants, Mr. Young graduated from Jenkintown High School and later served the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, according to his obituary.

Following the war, Mr. Young earned a bachelor’s degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He then bought a house in Upper Darby with his wife, Ruth, where they raised four children.

A funeral service and burial in Lawnview Cemetery (Rockledge Borough) will be held privately, the obituary said.
