Wawa to Present Proposal for Downtown Glenside

Proposed Wawa Development

Cheltenham Township Commissioner Drew Sharkey issued an email announcing that Goodman Properties will formally present their proposal to build a “super” Wawa at the corners of Easton and Waverly Avenue in Glenside.

The hearing will take places at Curtis Hall on April 3 at 7:30 P.M.

The full text of the announcement is as follows:

Wawa Update: On Wednesday, April 3rd, at 7:30 PM at Curtis Hall in Wyncote, Goodman Properties will present their plan to build a Wawa store with gas on Easton Road, at Waverly Road, for the first time to the commissioners. It is my understanding that evening they will formally request the commencement of the approval process. It is important we hear from all neighbors on this proposed development. If you support, oppose or just have questions about the project, please attend. As information becomes available (traffic study, etc.) I will ensure the information is posted on the Township website.

It is important to know the following. Prior to the Goodman proposal, numerous developers reviewed the site for potential projects. Projects included mix-use student housing (by right- multi-story), CVS, Starbuck and Zoes Kitchen, Autozone, Urgent Care and Arcadia offices to name a few. Autozone did have the LukOil parcel under agreement. Due to site constraints, flooding concerns, the asking price of the land and other factors, these developers opted not to proceed. I mention this because I am sure you will ask what alternatives were examined.
