Wawa received the highest customer satisfaction score among convenience store chains across the United States via a survey released last week by the American Satisfaction Index (ACSI).
In the survey’s debut, Wawa earned a score of 82 while rival Sheetz came in fourth place with a score of 79. Wawa’s hoagies continue to be a big draw for customers, the survey said.
From the survey:
The ACSI Convenience Store Study 2024 is based on 5,710 completed surveys. Customers were chosen at random and contacted via email between March and September 2024. Customers are asked to evaluate their recent experiences with the largest companies in terms of market share, plus an aggregate category consisting of “all other”—and thus smaller— companies. ACSI survey data are used as inputs to the Index’s cause-and-effect econometric model, which estimates customer satisfaction as the result of the survey-measured inputs of customer expectations, perceptions of quality, and perceptions of value. The ACSI model, in turn, links customer satisfaction with the survey-measured outcomes of customer complaints and customer loyalty. ACSI clients receive confidential industry-competitive and best-in-class data on all modeled variables and customer experience benchmarks.
“Wawa and Sheetz have one of the biggest competitions in the convenience store industry, as both have strong, passionate followings,” Forrest Morgeson, director of research emeritus at ACSI told CNN. “Wawa’s results reinforce its broad market appeal and, for Sheetz, these findings point to opportunities to build on its existing strengths and close the gap.”
In March, a Barstool Philly bracket to determine the worst Wawa parking lot in the Philadelphia region went viral. Flourtown and Fort Washington stores made the cut.
To date, the Wawa empire has over 1,050 locations across 530 cities in 7 states and growing. The majority of their stores are spread across New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Local stores exist at 200 Easton Road and 82 Limekiln Pike in Glenside, 816 Old York Road in Jenkintown, 8250 Limekiln Pike in Wyncote, 1345-51 Easton Road in Abington, 1145 Virginia Drive and 106 N Bethlehem Pike in Fort Washington, 201 N York Road in Willow Grove, 1601 Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown, 2500 Philmont Avenue in Huntingdon Valley, and 412 S York Road in Hatboro.
