Volunteer opportunities in and around Glenside

The following volunteer opportunities have been posted in and around the Glenside area:

Briar Bush Nature Center (Abington Township)
Board Member
Description: The Friends of Briar Bush is currently seeking Board of Director candidates with backgrounds in community leadership, business, finance, non-profit management, and education.
Youth (Ages 13-17)
Description: Building/Grounds Maintenance and Bird Club, available all year round
Seasonal Summer Camp Aide apply here.
Adults​ (ages 18+)
Description: There are many volunteer opportunities for adults including docents, leading guided hikes, maintaining the facilities and grounds, organizing archives, and more. Some of our most pressing needs are:​
Leading information tables during community events
Leading hikes for school groups
Animal Care Volunteer Program
Description: Both adults and youth can volunteer for animal care. Youth must be 16+ years of age to volunteer for animal care on their own, or as young as 10 years old to volunteer with an adult family member. This program requires highly responsible, caring, and committed volunteers.

Breathing Room Foundation (Elkins Park)
Description: It is only through the work of kind, compassionate and dedicated volunteers that the Breathing Room Foundation is able to assist and impact so many families facing cancer. Breathing Room volunteers work directly with our families, in the office performing administrative tasks, cook meals, perform yard work, make deliveries, advise on fundraising committees, and serve as board members.

Friends of High School Park (Elkins Park)
Description: Cut back invasive plants, perform trail maintenance, and plant native trees, shrubs, and flowers.

Jefferson Abington Hospital: Safe Harbor Program
Description: Our bereavement volunteers are specially trained to work with children and adults to create a healing environment.

Pet Therapy Hospice Volunteer (Jenkintown)
Available Times: Weekdays (daytime), Weekends (daytime)
Description: The care team at Echo Hospice of Pennsylvania, LLC is looking for new, or established, Pet Therapy Teams (human & animal) to visit patients under our care.

Hospice Volunteer (Guardian Hospice, Willow Grove)
Available Times: Weekdays (daytime, evenings), Weekends (daytime, evenings)
Description: We’re looking for a reliable and caring volunteer to assist in our office once every other week for a few hours helping prepare supplies for distribution.

Adult Tutoring: Upper Moreland Free Public Library (109 Park Ave, Willow Grove)
Available Times: Weekdays (daytime, evenings), Weekends (daytime, evenings)
Description: Join our team of tutors to help adult students in the Willow Grove area as they prepare for their GED; learn basic educational skills: reading, writing and math; or learn English as another language. Volunteer training & support is provided by the Literacy Council of Norristown.
