Vincenzo’s Pizza and Steaks of Glenside (formerly Apollo’s Pizza) now open for business

Apollo’s Pizza of Glenside is now Vincenzo’s Pizza and Steaks.

Co-owners Steve Schmucker of Delaware and Alex Filipe of Philadelphia told Glenside Local that a soft opening began yesterday and continues today.

The eatery has kept to its familial roots: Felipe’s father was the owner of Apollo’s since roughly 2015. Vincenzo’s unofficially launched in April.

“We kept it Apollo’s for a bit after taking over. We’d been brainstorming concepts for awhile and got to talking,” Schmucker said. “Eventually, Alex’s dad sold the business to us. We knew all the previous owners. It’s been handed down for years.”

For Filipe, a Temple University graduate who majored in business, the new shop is a dream come true.

“It was always my dream to open a pizza shop. This has been my vision since I was a kid,” Filipe said, noting that his grandmother’s name was Vincenzina, and her father was Vincenzo.

David Tobin will serve as general manager alongside Pat Kerr, who has served as management for roughly a decade.

Schmucker, now 35, said he started in the industry when he was 17 and previously managed s pizza shop for about 15 years.

“We’re just young guys trying to get in the business. We’re very confident in our ingredients,” he said.

“Vincenzo’s is a different style of pizza. We take the time to do everything the right way. We use the best oven, the best cheese, the dough is made fresh daily. Everything’s fresh,” Filipe said. “We’re trying to cut out anything frozen. We really want to be known as a slice shop.”

Ownership said drivers will be on hand as of tomorrow to kick off delivery services.

“We had a couple big orders today. We’re ready and we can handle anything,” Filipe said.
