Victim of Glenside crash caused by reckless driver shares thoughts with NBC10, social media clip now part of investigation

Mary Corbo, whose car was struck by a reckless driver at the intersection of Jenkintown Road and Abington Avenue in Glenside on Friday, October 11, shared her thoughts regarding the incident with NBC10.

“The little things add up and they made really bad choices and unfortunately, you know, the repercussions are the rest of us have to deal with those things,” Corbo said. “As I started to cross the intersection, my peripheral vision, I saw something coming so I hit my break as fast as I could. Then I spun. When I got out of the car to try to like calm down and breathe, I saw a 13-year-old girl on the ground.”

According to Abington Township Police Department’s report of the incident, a vehicle with two male occupants was driving in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop for the red traffic signal at the intersection. The car subsequently struck a vehicle traveling through the intersection.

The first vehicle then careened onto the sidewalk and struck a 13-year-old female pedestrian who had been speaking with a crossing guard who had just led her across the road.

Both males then attempted to flee the scene on foot and were quickly apprehended by officers and placed under arrest.

Police said a partially smoked marijuana cigar was in plain view within the car, a bag labeled “Jet Fuel Gelato” containing weed was found immediately outside the car, and the interior smelled like freshly smoked marijuana.

“They didn’t have to get in a car and go that fast,” Corbo said. “If you’re going to smoke weed, why would you be driving?”

A bystander filmed the incident and the clip is being used in the investigation. You can watch NBC10’s video coverage below:
