Students from Upper Moreland High School participated in Temple University Ambler’s “Engineering Prototype Day,” which was held in conjunction with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division.

Former NASA astronaut and retired Navy Capt. Chris Ferguson, an Astronaut Hall of Fame 2022 inductee who logged 40 days, 10 hours and four minutes in space, provided a keynote address to the students.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the event showcased “the innovative, detailed projects that senior design students have been developing. This unique outreach program to area middle and high schools helps young students to become excited about pursuing careers in STEM.”

Students were able to glimpse at research projects being conducted at Temple which include: light aircraft dynamic flight control simulators, space flight simulators, a planetary surface explorer called the Lunarbot and a semi-autonomous robotic lawnmower.
