Lincoln Benner, a senior at Upper Moreland High School and a Welding Technology student at the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology in Willow Grove, took first place at the American Welding Society and Millwrights Local 219 Welding Contest on March 12 at the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Technical Center in Philadelphia.
Benner received a brand-new welder as his prize.

The contest was open to students currently enrolled in welding programs throughout greater Philadelphia, and each competitor was selected by their instructors. Each participant was tasked with completing three different welding projects: stick welding, MIG welding, and flux core welding. Students received program instructions and blueprints outlining their projects before into the shop to get to work.
“Mrs. Cicchino asked me about it, and I jumped at the chance to demonstrate my skills,” said Benner. “Welding aligns with my values and career goals, and I was fortunate to be accepted.”
