Dr. Sue Elliott, superintendent of the Upper Moreland School District, announced today that Upper Moreland police investigated a reported threat to the middle school on Tuesday, March 17.
According to the notice, the threat came from a student’s social media account and “involved bringing a weapon to school.”
The threat was deemed not credible and police and school administrators determined that the district’s schools are safe for students and staff.
“Out of an abundance of caution, UMPD will have an increased presence at the middle school this morning. We are grateful to the UMPD and other authorities who prioritize student and staff safety and take any threats seriously,” Dr. Elliot said in the notice. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Overnight, the Safe2Say Something Hotline helped the UMPD and our District swiftly investigate. We ask that any student, family member, or staff member immediately report any concerns about student safety to a school administrator or use the Safe2Say Something Hotline to report. All concerns will be investigated by our administration and our local law enforcement.”
“If your child expresses any fear or anxiety related to what they may have seen on social media, please contact your child’s guidance counselor,” the notice said. “Our counselors are ready to support any students who may need to discuss their concerns.”
