Upper Moreland man sentenced for choking, beating, and stabbing a woman in their shared apartment

Darrius Lennard Showers, 33, of the 3800 block of Blair Mill Road in Upper Moreland, was sentenced to 2 to 5 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to choking, beating, and stabbing a woman during an argument inside the Blair Mill Village East Apartments on October 23, 2023, the Pottstown Mercury reported.

Showers was charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and strangulation, the Mercury said.

An investigation began after Upper Moreland police responded to a report of a “physical domestic” between Showers and a woman he was dating and living with, according to the arrest affidavit filed by Upper Moreland Police Officer Vincent John Small.

“While responding to the incident, dispatch advised that the female was stabbed by the male,” Small wrote in the criminal complaint, adding arriving officers found Showers at the door of his apartment. “(The victim) had a stab wound near the left knee and multiple injuries on her face, neck and back.”

The woman was hospitalized due to her injuries, the Mercury said.

Showers was also arrested in 2021 by Upper Southampton police for punching a woman several times and “smashing a drink on the left side of her face”, according to a police report.
