Upper Moreland honors retired officer Bill Hoffman for 43 years of service

Upper Moreland Township honored retired officer Bill Hoffman during a board meeting on Monday, July 10.

After 43 years of dedicated service to the Township’s police department, Hoffman has announced his second retirement, effective last week.

According to the Township’s Facebook post, Hoffman was hired by the Upper Moreland Police Department in 1980 and served as a patrol officer, supervisor, field training officer and crash reconstructionist during his 33-year career.

From the post:

Bill received numerous citations and commendations over the years.

In 2013, Bill “retired” from police work and immediately moved into a civilian position at UMPD as a clerk. Our civilian staff is integral in keeping the police department running in many ways. In addition to his civilian duties, Bill’s presence added years of experience and expertise at the station and he continued to guide new officers for yet another decade.

Last week, Bill retired for the second time. Although his knowledge, kindness and positive personality is irreplaceable to us, we are incredibly grateful that he gets to enjoy this next chapter of his life with his beautiful family.

Please join us in sending well wishes and the happiest retirement to Bill Hoffman!
