Upper Moreland girls basketball player scores 1,000th point, nominated for Girls Athlete of the Week

Holly Gohl, a senior at Upper Moreland High School, scored 18 points and recorded her 1,000th career point in a 41-36 win over Lower Moreland High School on Tuesday, December 5.

Gohl entered the game just six points short of 1,000 despite a COVID-shortened freshman season, City of Basketball Love reported.

“It was difficult. I thought it was six points, this is going to be quick,” Gohl said. “And then I couldn’t make a shot, my nerves were high. My teammates were struggling, too. We couldn’t hit a shot. It was hard for us.”

Gohl became just the seventh Upper Moreland girls player to reach 1,000. Last year, she helped lead the Golden Bears to the PIAA Class 5A Tournament and their third consecutive Suburban One League Freedom title.

“It’s a major accomplishment, it’s something I will never forget,” Gohl said. “All these people here supporting me, it means the world. I am so happy to go on the banner and be known around here for my accomplishments.”

The milestone has Gohl nominated for Philly Burbs’ Girls Athlete of the Week. To cast your vote, you can click here. Voting ends Thursday, December 14 at 8:00pm.
