The Upper Moreland High School and Cheltenham High School boys’ basketball teams wound up sharing the Suburban One League Freedom Division title this year.
For the Golden Bears, it’s their first title in over 40 years. The teams met late last month, with Upper Moreland coming out on top with a 64-59 double-overtime win.
In the postseason, Upper Moreland took down the Central Bucks East Patriots 80-73 on Friday and saw a narrow 40-39 victory against Central Bucks South on Saturday, bringing their record to 19-4 on the year.
Cheltenham dropped to Upper Dublin High School on Friday.
The Golden Bears will play in the SOL championship game on Tuesday.

In related news, Colson Campbell, a senior Golden Bear, was featured by City of Basketball Love late last week in an article titled “Family making Upper Moreland senior Colson Campbell’s season a special one“.
His freshman brother, Cannon, and his father, Jason, who joined the program as an assistant coach in 2023, have been the highlight of Colson’s senior year, the article said.
Colson’s career point total currently sits at 969.
“It’s always been in the back of my mind,” Colson said of scoring 1,000 points. “It’s all coming together right now.”
“That’s an incredible accomplishment at any level,” Upper Moreland coach Dan Heiland said. “It’s awesome that that is something he now is potentially able to achieve. I give him a ton of credit. He isn’t just taking shots to take shots. He’s taken the approach that if it happens, it happens. He just wants to win.”
“Personally, for me, it’s a blessing and it’s priceless,” Jason told CoBL. “I’ve been able to have a front row seat. I get to capture this from a coach’s perspective and as a father. They’re both coachable and open-minded and know when to separate being a coach and being a dad.”
