UPDATE on Sunday’s Abington Township Shooting

Montgomery County District Attorney, Kevin R. Steele announced an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 866 Jenkintown Road, in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township.

Per protocol for officer-involved shootings in the county, Montgomery County Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the shooting of an armed suspect that occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Sunday March 4th.

GlensideLocal.com reported yesterday that the Abington Township Police responded to a Jenkintown residence for a reported domestic situation which involved a stabbing. When police arrived on scene, they encountered a male suspect in the basement of the home. He was confronted by a responding officer, who discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. The suspect, who lived at the residence, was pronounced dead at the scene. A semi-automatic pistol was recovered in proximity to the suspect. Per policy, the name of the police officer involved and the deceased suspect are not being released at this time.
