The Abington Township Police Department announced that the Tyson Avenue bridge will be closed November 2 – December 18 for rehabilitation.
PennDOT will begin work on Tyson Avenue over Susquehanna Road. Tyson Avenue will be closed 24/7 between Albright Avenue and Easton Road through Friday, December 18, police said.
Drivers will be detoured to Edge Hill Road, Jenkintown Road, Fitzwatertown Road and Susquehanna Road.
According to PennDOT’s notice, a contractor will apply a Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) overlay on the deck, repair and repave the approach roads, and reseal the bridge joints. Additional work includes painting the superstructure and the bearings, steel beam fatigue retrofits, spall repairs to the substructure units, and sidewalk repairs at the south end approach.
The 62-year-old structure is 65 feet long, 34 feet wide, and carries more than 6,500 vehicles per day, PennDOT said.
