Two Cheltenham wrestlers win Districts, La Salle College wrestling sets new record

The Cheltenham High School wrestling team saw two of its members win their respective weight classes at the District 1 AAA Section South tournament at Hatboro-Horsham High School on Saturday, February 24.

Junior Arthur Gordon (33-3) won the 160-pound weight class and senior Corey Bradley (33-2) won the 172-pound crown. They will move on to the Regional tournament at Oxford Area High School on Friday, March 1.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, the last time Cheltenham High School had an individual wrestling district champion was in 1999 when senior Max Galka (left) won the 130-pound weight class.

The last Panther wrestler to win an individual regional tournament was 1995 CHS graduate Kevin Brandon (center). Kevin won at 140 pounds in 1995 and at 130 pounds in 1994.

The last CHS wrestler to win a state championship was CHS Alumni Association Hall of Famer John McHugh (right). In 1953, John captured the PIAA state championship at 103 pounds.


In related news, the La Salle College High School wrestling team scored a District 12 record 275 points at the Individual Championships on Saturday.

The day included 10 finalists, six champions, and one third place finisher from the Explorers.

The team will compete at Regionals on Friday, March 1.
