Two Cedarbrook students win first place at MontCo Science Research Competition

Cheltenham School District announced that Cedarbrook students Tessa Homa and Johnny Raisch each won first place at the recent Montgomery County Science Research competition at Germantown Academy on Thursday, March 23.

Cedarbrook students accounted for 14 awards and $1,500 in monetary awards.

Of its 22 participants, Cedarbrook students accounted for two first, four second, four thirds and two honorable mentions. Eighteen of the 22 students were first-time science fair participants.

Homa took first place with the project “He Looks Just Like You! Does a Baby Look Like Its Parents?” She also won the Kurumety Family Award in the Behavioral & Social category. Raisch presented “Is Bigger Better? Paper Size and Airplanes” and took home the Steve & Mary Beth Young Award in the Physics category. 

Finishing in second place were Cole Powers (“Vowel” Language: Letter Ratios and Wordle Success Rates); Noelle Ryan (Sweet Dreams:  Effect of Age on Dream Recall); Ashae Branch-Huston (What Duration of UV-C Exposure Will Kill the Most Bacteria?); and Grace Byard (Musical Plants: Classical Music’s Effect on Bean Plant Growth).

All first- and second-place finishers are eligible to participate in the Delaware Valley Science Fair on April 5 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa.
