Today in History with Chuck: First Lady Hilary Clinton visits Cheltenham High School

U.S. First Lady and future Democratic Presidential nominee Hilary Rodham Clinton came to Wyncote on Thursday, October 3, 1996 to speak about educational issues.

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Clinton was greeted by approximately 200 Cheltenham High School students, faculty, administrators, and parents after school in the Little Theatre.

The Bill Clinton/Al Gore 1996 campaign organized the event.

“It was a tremendous honor for Cheltenham to be chosen over the other 21 school districts in Montgomery County,” Langerman wrote. “Hard to believe that anyone in attendance that day knew they were listening to the first woman in United States history that would be nominated by a major party to run for the highest office in the land.”
