Today in History: Former resident shares background of a wedding anniversary in Glenside on June 25, 1910

Joe Medeiros, a former Glenside resident and former head writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, shared a Substack article today titled “A Wedding Anniversary, 116 Years Ago Today“.

According to Medeiros, the McDermond family gathered on the front porch of Medeiros’ previous home on Sunday, June 25, 1910, to celebrate the seventh wedding anniversary of Mordecai and Meta.

Meta McDermond sold the house to the article’s author in 1978 after 70 years in the home. Mordecai McDermond died in 1954.

“This photo is special because it was taken on the front porch of the home my wife Justine and I lived in from 1978 to 1992,” Medeiros wrote. “It was our first house. Our two children were born here, and it holds the memories of many family gatherings like the one John L. McDermond captured here. This home is also where I found these glass negatives.”

“This is a less formal photo taken on the very same porch in 1980. With Justine and me are Justine’s parents, Angelo and Jessie Mesticheilli,” he wrote. “Justine is pregnant with our first child. Ignoring the camera is our dog Gelsomina, whom my father-in-law was devoted to.”

The article includes 1980s-era photos of his former home (below) and AI animations of the group photos.
