Throwback Thursday: Kenyon’s Diner

This week, we’re dipping back into the diner well. Today, you know it as the Moonlight Diner in North Hills, but it served its first cup of Joe as Kenyon’s Diner. The photo above comes from a photo on the wall at Giuliano’s Deli on Mt. Carmel.

Diner aficionados might identify the original Kenyon’s as built in the late 1920s to early 1930s by the Jerry O’Mahony Dining Car Company of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

It’s likely the original unit was replaced by a newer diner sometime in the late 40s or early 50s and was then remodeled on site.

The Moonlight has operated at this location for better than ten years, with was about the last time my wife and I stopped in for a visit. We had a very good breakfast of pancakes, French toast, and pork roll. At this writing, Yelpers give the Moonlight four stars from 65 reviews.

Have a good Kenyon story to tell? Leave it in the comments.
