Three Cheltenham grads seeing professional success: Jay Arnold (1975), Leo DeVito, Jr (1976), Joe Trautwein (1983)

Local historian Chuck Langerman has highlighted the current professional statuses of three Cheltenham High School alumni.

Jay Arnold (above left)

Arnold, a 1975 graduate and Philadelphia-based writer/director, released his latest film, “Shoulder Dance“, currently available On Demand.

After majoring in Advertising and Art History at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Arnold landed in the advertising business and ran an agency for 30 years. After retiring from the ad industry, he transitioned into writing and filmmaking.

Leo DeVito, Jr (above middle)

DeVito, Jr., a 1976 graduate, is now a partner in the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania law firm Broughal & DeVito.

DeVito was a three-sport athlete at Cheltenham High (football, wrestling, and track and field). He grew up in Glenside, and his father, Leo DeVito, Sr., graduated with the Class of 1943.

As a senior, Devito was named the winner of the Bert Bell Award which honors the top male athlete in the graduating class.

He is also a 1980 graduate of Gettysburg College, and graduated magna cum laude from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio.

Joe Trautwein (above right)

Trautwein, a 1983 graduate and track and field star, is a prominent, award-winning Pennsylvania attorney, focusing his practice in False Claims Act litigation involving healthcare fraud and abuse and other types of government contractor fraud.

During his senior season, Trautwein ran a school-record 4:19.40 in the 1600 meters at the PIAA District One championships held at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown.

The record still stands today and is the only remaining CHS boys’ track and field record from the 1900s, according to Langerman.
