Local historian Chuck Langerman has highlighted the current professional statuses of three Cheltenham alumni:
Dr. Hope Druckman (above left)
Dr. Druckman, a 1968 graduate and Seattle, Washington internist, was honored with the prestigious 2024 Health Care Heroes Award by The Puget Sound Business Journal. The award celebrates those who are making significant contributions to healthcare, showing exceptional concern for patients, leading groundbreaking research, and providing outstanding service to the community.
The 1976 Harvard Medical School graduate specializes in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine.
Marc Spitzer (above middle)
Spitzer, a 1975 graduate and an attorney in Washington, D.C., is a former member of the Arizona State Senate, serving four terms from January 1993 through January 2001, including as Senate Majority Leader.
In June 2006, Spitzer was nominated by President George W. Bush and served as Commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission from July 2006 to December 2011. He is regularly called upon as a lecturer on energy law across the United States and internationally.
Spitzer is a 1979 graduate of Dickinson College and earned his law degree at the University of Michigan Law School. At Cheltenham High, Marc was on the debate team, the Environmental Committee, and in the orchestra.
Francine Marquis (above right)
Marquis, a 2012 graduate, has been named the “Emerging Leader of the Year” by the Technology Association of Georgia which represents leaders and employers across the state.
Marquis is the AI Program Manager at Google Cloud at Google’s Atlanta office and was chosen the winner over four other qualified finalists at the association’s 2024 awards ceremony held last month at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
She earned both her Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA from Hampton University in Virginia. At Cheltenham High School, Francine was President of the senior class, participated in track & field and cross-country, on the debate team, and a Black Scholars inductee.
