In 1930, Cheltenham Avenue was still a narrow country road running out of Philadelphia into Springfield. Looking west towards the intersection at Willow Grove Avenue, you can see that Mermaid Lane was still a dirt road (left foreground) as is Hillcrest Road, visible on the right at the lamppost. This photograph was taken prior to this area’s development in Cheltenham Township.
