The Pizza Wheel is rolling into Jenkintown

Anyone familiar with the Jenkintown food scene knows about the West Ave. Grille. For over 20 years, West Ave. has been offering the area their version of comfort food, and the town and beyond has responded with loyal and continued patronage. About a year ago, they expanded upon their business with their WAGon Wheels Food Truck, which brings the comfort food to you via catering and events. However, even now after running a successful restaurant and food truck, owners Dan and Chelsea Katz are once again expanding their horizons with a new venture – The Pizza Wheel, coming in September to Jenkintown Borough.

At the former site of Upper Crust Pizza on Old York Road in Jenkintown, The Pizza Wheel will be a B.Y.O.B. that leans Italian. Of course, they are offering pizza, as well as classic entrees, specialty pastas, sandwiches and homemade sauces. While the menu has been mapped out, they are still putting on the finishing touches.

The restaurant will be open six days a week, sans Tuesdays, and will have lunch and dinner hours. Dan and Chelsea envision the spot to be family friendly, but also intimate enough to be a perfect date night destination. They will offer delivery on all the relevant platforms, as well as the ability to order straight from their website.

The name, The Pizza Wheel, is a nod to the family vibe Dan and Chelsea have nurtured with their loyal customer base and their staff. In fact, some of the staff they have on hand already will be making the transition to the new venture.

“We are, at the end of the day, a family owned business.” Chelsea said. “We refer to our staff as our WAG fam. We try to portray that vibe on our customers that come in and dine. We have people that have been coming here for 21 years and they are like family at this point. To grow on that, we expanded on it with WAGon Wheels and even though this is a new venture, we wanted to build a brand for ourselves and keep it in the family.”

The gang at West Ave. Grille have received many calls about Bridal and Baby Showers, but up until now, haven’t had the space to be able to accommodate those requests. Their new location will have a front and back dining room and will give Dan and Chelsea the ability to provide their customers with event opportunities.

Keep your eyes peeled for the opening of The Pizza Wheel this coming September. We will have updates as the grand opening nears.
