The Harlem Globetrotters, including Darnell “Speedy” Artis, a 2016 graduate of La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, are coming to the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia on March 1 as part of their “100 Year Tour”.
The tour launched in December at Madison Square Garden and features over 200 domestic games in the U.S. and Canada and more than 125 international markets.
Artis, a Gwynedd Mercy University hall of famer, was named the new head coach of the men’s basketball team in June.
From the school’s announcement:
A celebrated member of the 2015-2016 championship squad and one of the most recognizable faces of GMercyU Athletics, Artis brings both professional experience and a deep commitment to the University’s Mercy values. After his collegiate success, Artis went on to captivate global audiences as a standout member of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters.

In 2018, he started the UnderDawgs summer basketball league at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center (1100 E Chelten Avenue in Philadelphia). You can read Glenside Local’s previous coverage of his career here.
