Teens arrested for carjacking a woman at the Abington Shopping Center then crashing her vehicle in Philly

The Abington Township Police Department announced that officers responded to a carjacking report from the parking lot of the Abington Shopping Center at 1400 Old York Road at 12:08pm today.

According to police, the female victim said that she parked her vehicle in the lot and, while walking towards a nearby business, was grabbed from behind by two males. The males were later identified as an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old.

The males allegedly grabbed a bag from her shoulder which held her car keys, which the suspects used to steal her vehicle and flee south on Old York Road.

Police said the victim was not injured and an investigation revealed that the suspects had arrived in Abington in a Nissan Rogue, which had been carjacked an hour earlier in the Olney section of Philadelphia.

Officers spotted and followed the vehicle along Old York Road into Philadelphia, at which point it crashed in the 5200 block of Bingham Street.

The suspects fled on foot and attempted to carjack a third vehicle on Tabor Avenue. Abington and Philadelphia Police eventually apprehended the suspects after they were seen hiding in thick brush along a nearby trail.

Both suspects were arrested without incident and transported to the Abington Township Police Department. They will be charged with robbery of a motor vehicle and related charges.

The investigation into these crimes is ongoing, police said.
