Sweet Magnolia, a gift shop in Glenside, celebrated its 20th anniversary on Sunday, September 3 and plans to celebrate the milestone throughout the month of September.
“It’s hard to believe. People still come in and ask when we opened. I love it, and I still love it,” owner Maureen Haff said. “It’s been great being part of this community. We raised our kids here and it’s been a real great connection. I’m so happy to still be in business.”

Each Thursday this month, Haff plans to host pop-up events featuring local artists and music, the first of which will coincide with the Glenside Food Truck Festival.
“One of those Thursdays we’ll have the husband-and-wife musical group Kat with an Attitude. They’re really nice people and they’re local,” she said.
Haff has been a member of the Downtown Glenside Foundation since its inception roughly 20 years ago and has served the community beyond the purview of Sweet Magnolia. In 2019, Cheltenham Township honored Haff with a Community Service Award.

In November 2022, the Township featured Sweet Magnolia with a Business Spotlight:
“When we first opened, I became a volunteer for the Economic Task Force. I’ve been plugging away. We’re looking for more community anchors and strong businesses,” she said.
“I want to give back to the artists with a showcase for artists and restaurants for the month of September. We may even do it longer than September depending on how it goes. TreVi’s going bring their homemade wine over. I’ve always liked having local artists be part of us,” she said.

September celebrations include:
Trexi Designs: Local designer Ashley Myers, alterations specialist, will be at the shop each Thursday in September.
“Ashley loves giving clients formal gowns and vintage/thrifted finds their best fit,” Haff said.
Sues’s Scents: The local candlemaker, famous for her 19038 candles, will make appearances on September 7, 14, and 21.
Dr. Handselly’s Soapery: A local artisan who specializes in cold pressed soap will be at the shop each Thursday.
Knot and Feather Shop: A creator of handmade macrame will be at Sweet Magnolia on September 7.
Belle Mille: Alexa Domkowski’s extra virgin olive oil from Italy will be at Sweet Magnolia on September 7.
GP Candles Co.: “Good candles for good people.”
TreVi BYOB: Trevi’s homemade wine will be at the shop on September 7.
Kat With An Attitude: Musical group made up of Michael and Diana McCormack will perform at Sweet Magnolia.
Viviano Calabrian: Local artist and art curator who publishes her work using recycled paper greetings will appear at the shop on September 28.
“She makes stories with other people’s art as curator of Elcy’s Cafe. She takes portrait commissions and finds herself mostly working with note cards,” Haff said.
From Haff’s Facebook post:
As Sweet Magnolia turns 20 I look back on our beginnings (that forever changed my life). We evolved from a vintage style to an on trend boutique. Our Glenside customers and more have followed us all the way. We are so thankful and want to give back to our community. Through September we will stay open showcasing local artists and music. Please join us for special free gifts and a raffle.
Hope to see you September 7th during the Glenside Food Truck Festival as we kickoff our 20th year celebration
