‘SUN Bucks’, new federal program, provides $120 for each school-aged child during the summer

Summer EBT or “SUN Bucks”, a new federal program, can provide families in greater Glenside with a one-time payment of $120 for each school-aged child to buy groceries during summer months.

Children who live in Pennsylvania and who already receive SNAP or TANF benefits or receive free or reduced-price school meals are automatically eligible. Because this is the first summer of the program, SUN Bucks will be distributed in late summer and early fall, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

2024 income eligibility requirements by household size:

  1. Two-person household: $37,814 per year or $728 per week
  2. Three-person household: $47,767 per year or $919 per week
  3. Four-person household: $57,720 per year or $1,110 per week
  4. Five-person household: $67,673 per year or $1,302 per week

Families not automatically enrolled in the program can apply with their state’s application. Pennsylvanian families must download and print a paper application to fill out and mail to their county assistance office. Applications are due by August 31.

According to the Inquirer, you can use SUN Bucks to buy:

  1. fruits and vegetables
  2. meat, poultry, and fish
  3. dairy products
