Student with Firearm Arrested at Bishop McDevitt

The Cheltenham Police Department reports the discovery of a male student in possession of a firearm on school property.

School Staff reported to Police that the 17 year old male 11th grade student came to school late and was in the attendance office when a school official noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the juvenile male. 

While investigating the student further, the school official found an unloaded 9mm handgun in the student’s possession. There were no threats made against any students or staff at the school and no one was injured. There was no ammunition in the students possession or recovered at the school. Investigation showed the firearm to be stolen. The 17 year old Philadelphia resident was placed under arrest and transported to Cheltenham Township Police Headquarters.

The student will be charged with the following violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code: Possession of a Gun on School Property, Possession of a Firearm by Minor, Firearms not to be Carried With-out a License, Theft, and Receiving Stolen Property. The juvenile was remanded to the Montgomery County Youth Center for further Court proceedings.
